Has your car been hacked yet?

As cars become more and more dependent on embedded controllers and firmware, the possibility emerges of cars getting maliciously hacked. Does that sound far-fetched to you? Well, a team of "research hackers" at the universities of Washington and California have been investigating exactly that possibility. The results were amazing and more than a little worrying (depending of course on your PPI (Personal Paranoia Index)). You can read the full story at New Scientist online.

Announcing a new controller product - HD8

We have just released a new SPLat Controller. It is called the HD8. It features a user interface with 3 buttons and 3 digits of seven-segment numeric display. It was designed for applications like "smart temperature controllers", where you may need a simple user settable parameter (e.g. target temperature), plus the ability to program in a sequence of steps. Think "dishwasher", "fermentation vessel", "autoclave".

Of course, it needn't be just temperature. The HD8 has 2 analog inputs with 5V, 10V, 20mA ranges or thermistor, so you could be measuring and controlling a wide range of physical variables
